TEEN LUST in 35mm on 7/12 at the Nitehawk!

Temple of Schlock founder Chris Poggiali will be at the Nitehawk Cinema in Brooklyn on Thursday, July 12th, to introduce a rare 35mm showing of James Hong's THE GIRLS NEXT DOOR (a.k.a. TEEN LUST)! This event, part of the “The Deuce” screening series, is expected to sell out, so get your tickets now! Written, produced and directed by busy and beloved character actor James Hong, this episodic, idiosyncratic bad-taste comedy about a group of high school newly-grads consistently surprises by giving equal time to their creepy parents, neighbors, clergymen, and local law enforcement. Filmed in 1977 under the title SO LONG, COLUMBUS HIGH but completed as THE GIRL NEXT DOOR, it failed to find an audience upon its release in 1978 as THE GIRLS NEXT DOOR and spent the next five years haunting drive-ins under yet another two titles before hitting the Deuce on September 9th, 1983 (Top-lining a triple bill at the Victory with GETTING IT ON and THE CREEPER).

HELLS ANGELS ON WHEELS collides with STRAW DOGS and LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT in this brutal biker flick from Hong Kong's legendary Shaw Brothers Studios. A series of increasingly hostile run-ins between a gang of rowdy Yamaha riders and two young couples staying at an island vacation home leads to deaths by electrocution, fire, boiling oil, broken glass, harpoon gun, and even outboard motor! In other words, this is more top-notch schlock from the director of THE BOXER'S OMEN! Plus, you get a snappy soundtrack of stolen music ranging from Piero Piccioni's "Identikit 2" and Herbie Hancock's "Heartbeat" to Lalo Schifrin cues swiped from KELLY'S HEROES. MANOS: THE HANDS OF FATE screening & soundtrack premiere in Brooklyn on Oct. 7th!

Hey gang! The New York City premiere of the HD restored MANOS: THE HANDS OF FATE (1966) will be at the Nitehawk Cinema on Wednesday, October 7th at 7:30 P.M. and is being hosted by the folks at Ship to Shore Phono Co. In attendance will be uncredited vocalist Nicki Mathis who sang the two songs featured in the film, and our friend Tim Ferrante has been asked to moderate a Q&A with her! Ship to Shore will also host an after party where it launches its MANOS soundtrack LP. More info can be found here.

The jazz-centric score for Hal Warren's horror "Master"-piece is forthcoming from Brooklyn's own Ship to Shore Phono Co. The company sourced its audio from the 35mm soundtrack negative that was created for making theatrical release prints. The master tapes have never surfaced, thus leaving this 35mm neg as the closest one can get to the original recorded material. The company is offering three vinyl variants that will total a press run of 2000 LPs. Expected release date is the end of this month. Ship to Shore's soundtrack is timed to coincide with the Synapse Blu-ray DVD of the fully restored MANOS (release date: October 13, 2015). It's sourced from the original camera Ektachrome film.


That's right, Hal Warren didn't use negative film...it was shot using 16mm Ektachrome reversal stock!

Q&A with Nicki Mathis, vocalist of “Forgetting You” (the love theme from MANOS: THE HANDS OF FATE) before the film moderated by Tim Ferrante, columnist for VideoScope Magazine. After the screening, there will be an after party at Lo-Res where attendees can purchase Ship to Shore’s Manos soundtrack LP.

Often lauded as one of the worst films of all time, Hal P. Warren’s notorious no-budget monstrosity MANOS: THE HANDS OF FATE combines bizarre imagery, nonsensical dialog and an off-kilter funhouse score to create a memorably surreal experience. The poster claims “a cult of weird, horrible people who gather beautiful women only to deface them with a burning hand,” but…. we’re not too sure if that even happens.
