How sad is it that by that 1975 review, the guy would say that Hawkes was NOT a professional actor when clearly he was and had been for several years. He just SUCKED at it!
Do you remember a couple years ago when a story broke out of Florida about a lion [or maybe a tiger] that was shot after escaping his owner's property? Heard the owner's name, Steve Sipek, and thought, Nah, couldn't be him. Sure enough, saw an interview and it was Steven Hawkes, still at with his big cats.
Steve Sipek used to call Stjepan Šipek, but he changed name when he came to America. He was born in Croatia in a little village called Igrišće.I am from Igrišće and he is my cousin
After I read this, I did a search for Steve Sipek and found this recent update on Mr. Hawkes, the "Real Life Tarzan" - what an interesting man! Really cool to see what he's up to today. Man, I wonder how he affords to feed all these big cats? That must cost a FORTUNE! Also has video from the 20/20 episode. Good stuff.
