Why does Dirk Benedict look like Earl Owensby on that poster?

And what's with the re-drawn artwork from the WHITE LIGHTNING one-sheet on EAT MY SMOKE as well?

Was EAT MY SMOKE a re-release of RUCKUS or did it play in certain markets under different titles? I'm guessing that perhaps the box office on RUCKUS was not quite what New World was hoping for so it re-tooled the title and art work to ape its earlier Ron Howard success.

The poster tag on EAT MY DUST is of course used to great effect in the classic trailer, sold with vigor by The Real Don Steele.

As for SMOKEY BITES THE DUST being the first comedy made specifically for the insane - I wonder how successful they were with that target audience!

Robert, I've also seen New World promotional materials for this under the title RUCKUS IN MADOC COUNTY. Not sure what the story is behind this one. To confuse matters further, the MPAA doesn't list EAT MY SMOKE as an alternate title for RUCKUS, but it does list FOLLOW THAT CAR as an alternate title for SMOKEY BITES THE DUST, when I own a pre-record VHS of FOLLOW THAT CAR and it's actually an alternate title for the Corman produced TV movie GEORGIA PEACHES, which was also made in 1980 and starred Dirk Benedict!

Somewhere I've got a pre-release ad for RUCKUS that clearly styles it as a perhaps violent drama but then they released it as RUKUS IN MADOC COUNTY and it was DUKES OF HAZZARD stuff! Don't know if they re-edited or if it was just different attempts at marketing...neither of which worked.

RUCKUS is actually a ripoff of FIRST BLOOD, the original RAMBO PICTURE!! It's weird seeing Ron Howard wearing a Confederate cap. Maybe he DID wear such a cap in the film, but it's still unusual. How politically incorrect! Ron's the archtypal "northerner" (despite having played a Southerner on "Andy Griffith") and somewhat "liberal" to boot He'd probably wince if he ever saw that one sheet.

Almost all the car action in 'Smokey Bites The Dust' is from other New World movies.
