The Fragility of the Human Mind, Part 3: John Paul Steckler VII

In DON'T GIVE UP THE SHIP (1959), Jerry Lewis plays John Paul Steckler VII, a Navy lieutenant whose honeymoon is interrupted when he's called before a military appropriations committee.

He foolishly believes that he is going to be awarded a medal for bravery for his actions during World War II.

In reality, the committee and Congressman Mandeville demand that Steckler return an important piece of Navy property that he signed out and never returned.

"The best thing for me to do is just pay up and get this thing over with, so if you'll tell me how much it is, I'll pay."

"The total amount comes to five million, four hundred and fifteen thousand, nine hundred and twenty-five dollars."

"Oh come now, son. Your government doesn't want to be tough on you. Just tell us -- what did you do with the U.S.S. Kornblatt?"

"I didn't take it."

"I didn't take her."

"I haven't got her. Honest."

"Scout's honor."

The Fragility of the Human Mind, Part 1: Brendan Byers III

In WHICH WAY TO THE FRONT? (1970), Jerry Lewis plays Brendan Byers III, who -- despite being the wealthiest man in the world -- is so terrified of rejection that just hearing the word is enough to temporarily transform him into a bug-eyed babbling nut.
