Anyone know when the theatre finally closed? The usually helpful Cinema Treasures site incorrectly lists 1979.

John, I can't give you a definitive answer at the moment, but I know the theater switched to Spanish-language movies sometime in 1984, after the owner claimed that programs like "Drive-In Movie" were running the same kung fu flicks on TV for free and cutting into his ticket sales. After a month or two of even slower business, he switched back to kung fu movies, and the last thing I found was an article about a husband and wife who were thinking about buying the theater and using it for a stage/drama company.
